In a surprise turn of events, this weekend I started watching the Prince of Tennis anime from the beginning. Honestly, it's charming and well paced! I can see why I was so into it... 20+ years ago. I wouldn't say it's particularly mature; it is definitely a story about a 12 year old beating almost everyone at tennis and everyone talking about how cool he is. The adolescents are very adolescent - Kaido hissing like a snake is classic awkward 13-year-old behaviour.

I mostly remembered the important parts: the tennis and the cat. I had forgotten everything about Echizen's sleazy dad, and I would happily forget that all over again. I also forgot how long they drew out not letting you see how Tezuka plays tennis - I've watched 24 episodes, and I don't think you actually see him play until episode 25. There is a ton of filler, but the filler is all one episode fillers IIRC, so in that matter is vastly superior to, say, the endless Bleach filler arcs.

Overall it's feeling like light nostalgic fun.

Into the Unown: Rules & Schedule

Mar. 1st, 2026 05:33 pm
peasina: (❝ pokemon - unown p ❞)
[personal profile] peasina posting in [community profile] pokepodproject

Welcome to the first bonus/mini round of The PokéPod Project, a collaborative fan project that aims to create a fic and podfic about every Pokémon. This bonus round focuses on Unown, a generation two Pokémon with 28 forms. The collection and anthology are scheduled to reveal on 6 April 2026, the 25th anniversary of the theatrical release of Pokémon 3: The Movie in North America.

Schedule

1 Mar: Writer & Podficcer Signups Open
8 Mar: Writer Signups Close
9 Mar: Latest writing assignments go out
17 Mar: Writing Deadline & Podficcer Signups Close
22 Mar: Latest podfic assignments go out
29 Mar: Podfic Deadline
6 Apr: Anthology + AO3 Collection revealed
(All times 20:00PM UTC)

How this works

Writers sign up to create 1 – 2 stories about Unown. Unlike the project's main rounds, Unown forms will be assigned randomly, so participants really will be going... into the un(kn)own! Each story should focus on the Unown form assigned, be between 100 – 1000 words, and be posted to this round's AO3 Collection by the deadline. All participating writers consent to their work being podficced - this means a fellow Pokémon fan will perform a reading of your story and post it as a separate work using AO3's “inspired by” function.

Podficcers sign up to record between 1 – 2 stories written for the project and are also randomly assigned Unown forms.

Once all stories have been written and podficced, they will be revealed alongside a podfic anthology, unleashing all the Unown fanworks into the world to become known!

Please read the rules below in full before signing up, even if you're an event veteran. As this is not a traditional AO3 exchange/challenge, there are parts of the creation process that will differ from what you're used to, from sign-ups to posting.

Fandom Promos

Have you already decided what fandom(s) to write for? If so, how about doing a little promoting? :D

We've all chosen tiny obscure canons, needless to say. But by posting here you might be able to entice someone else to give it a try — or perhaps you'll even run into a fellow fan, who can't wait to read your coming fic.

Your promo can be long or short, and contain whatever you feel like. Want to post a couple of intriguing screencaps from a movie? Quote a few paragraphs from a book? Rec the best episode of an anime or a TV series? Talk about why you love your favorite character and/or pairing from your fandom? It's all good; anything goes!

i had one of those shifts where i felt disrespected and disregarded and just plain used, but i noticed that we finally had the everything bagels that sell out super quickly that id never been able to snag before. so i bought some of those and some chive and onion cream cheese. and the affordable whole milk yogurt that we've been sold out of for a week. and some fruit "gummies" (just dried fruit in a gummy shape, but they're fun) and the lemons i'll use to make my wife's favorite pasta later this week

then i got home and had a bagel with the cream cheese and watched an episode of winnie the pooh with my headspace kiddos. and guess what! life is good again

Thank god I only engage in Deltarune fandom through close friends and a few specific servers, ‘cause dude. The current Deltarune Twitter drama is fucking insane.

Basically, the fandom is having a meltdown because a popular Spamtenna artist admitted she never played the game (not even watched an LP) and half the fandom is either calling for her cancellation or rabidly defending her. On top of that, there’s people bitching about fans being into Spamtenna and the popular characters (ex. Spamton, the Mikes) One guy was even like “Why aren’t you into the MCs instead of the stupid male joke characters!?” then proceeds to demonize Kerdly. Like what do you want, man? People will claim Spamtenna fans are misogynistic fangirls who only care about yaoi slop while completely ignoring that Spamtenna yuri is a subgenre of its own, and it’s basically yaoi vs. yuri wars all over again. Also, Spamton ties deeper into the plot than you realize? Like, are you even paying attention to the game? Now with the revelation that it’s likely they didn’t even play it and are just going off of fanon and tumblr posts, it explains so much where all this wank comes from.

"spamtenna is about to become the first canon ship that is so slandered and misrepresented in fanon that it collectively gets perceived as a crackship without any evidence in the source material. i hate it here"

Geez, calm down, man.

Basically, if anyone tries to police you over what characters and ships you like in Deltarune, you have even more incentive to tell them to fuck off. If they don’t even engage with the original canon, why should their word be held to any sort of authority? brb fangirling Spamton and my ships with him even more out of sheer spite

Terrible headache and I didn't even drink last night, it's just that people were too loud in the pub. Amazing how you can get symptoms identical to a hangover without alcohol just from being around people yelling for hours.

Recently read: The Woman Dies by Aoka Matsuda, translated by Polly Barton - I picked this up partly because I enjoyed Barton's translation of Butter, and partly because the cover art is so cool. Collection of stories, much of it flash fiction, tacking sexism, gender, technology, the media, etc. A lot funnier than I expected. The titular story, which is my favourite, is incisive about sexist cliches in the movies, but also has a very funny conversation about vaginas. I feel like this is best read all at once, because so many threads are picked up repeatedly in multiple stories (the Japanese national anthem jokes, for example), and it has a great rhythm that way, so I'm glad I read it all at once. I had a great time with this.

Currently reading: Lord of Mysteries: The Clown, Part 1 by Cuttlefish that Loves Diving - I'm 44 chapters in and really enjoying myself. There's some things the animated series glossed over but that the novel goes into more depth on, so the world feels even more textured. I'm most delighted by how sneaky Klein is, and how awkward all his interactions with Leonard are, but there's a lot to enjoy. I like that this has more on the tarot club, and I'm amused by Audrey and her large dog.

Yen Press doesn't seem to list a translator anywhere in the book, but I can believe there is a human translator because there are so many clunky adverbs. When did adverbs stop being considered bad writing, my guys? Maybe I'm out of touch on this, because I see them so often in published fiction these days (especially in translated fiction), and they always annoy me.

DNF: The Moon Glow Bookshop by Dongwon Seo, translated by Shanna Tan - the idea of a bar that sells drinks that tell stories is fun, but the prose in the translation is so clunky and surface, with no real subtext or interesting description, no depth or texture, that I just can't push myself forward.

I finished gathering all my [community profile] threesentenceficathon fills and compiled them here! Despite my burnout, this has been my most productive ficathon yet... 36 total fills! I even maxed out the 75 tag limit, whoops. XD Notable fandoms include LISA and Deltarune, and me crying about Moon: Remix RPG Adventure. Nanquest popped up a fair bit at the final stretch too. It's also my 100th upload to AO3! Figured that'd be worth celebrating. :D

Three chapters into the Wuthering Heights audiobook. Wish me luck!

Hi, and welcome to the eleventh round of Be The First!

This is a low-pressure challenge to write a fic, of any length, for a fandom that previously had none. That's it! If you want to take part, just reply to this post :)

Quick rundown: You have two months to write. The deadline is at 23:59 GMT on the 20th of April, and the archive will go live at 00:01 GMT on the 22nd of April. You can submit up to four stories, as long as they are for different canons.

If you'd like more information beyond those basic points, then you can find the FAQ right here. The AO3 collection for this year is here, and I'll be putting up a fandom promo post in roughly a week.

A big thank you to everyone who is reading this, whether you're a returning participant or someone checking out the challenge for the first time. As always, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you all write this year! ♥
